Jazz on the Green at Midtown Crossing, Omaha’s favorite free outdoor concert series, starts grooving this Thursday with Gooch & His Las Vegas Big Band. Preshow jams start at 6:30 PM, and Gooch takes the stage at 7:30 PM.

Whether you’re a JOTG pro or a first-timer, we think you’ll find these tips handy as you prepare for the hot weather and cool music.

1. Arrive early for the best seats!
The park opens at 5 PM for seating – and there’s usually a mad dash for prime time seating under the shades of trees and in the front row. Bring blankets and chairs with you to make the experience even more comfortable.

2. Park for free!
There are two parking garages, easily accessible from Farnam Street, Harney Street, Dodge Street and 33rd Street. For Jazz on the Green event days only, garage parking is free from 5 PM to 11 PM. Be aware that parking returns to Midtown Crossing’s validation system after 11 PM.

3. Pack summer essentials to beat the heat
We recommend you bring sunscreen, sunglasses, bug spray and lots of water! The more comfortable you are, the better you’ll be able to sit back, relax and enjoy the music. Outside food and beverages are allowed, excluding hard liquor. Food vendors will also be set up in the park. .
