February is Black History Month and a fitting time to celebrate civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King. On Valentine’s Day, we’ll welcome a special concert showcasing the inspiring music from King’s era.

Damien Sneed’s Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. combines jazz, R&B, gospel and Broadway tunes for an uplifting evening at the Holland Center. Here’s a few fun facts to help you get to know the show before you go:

1. The man behind the show
Damien Sneed is an award-winning producer and musical director. He’s worked with greats like Wynton Marsalis, Lawrence Brownlee, Diana Ross and Aretha Franklin. In his celebration of Dr. King, he perfectly weaves together music across genres to honor the life of the civil rights icon. Sneed, a vocalist and keys player, will be joined by several artists on the Kiewit Hall stage.

2. Music that inspired a generation
The concert pays tribute to King’s work through music we’ve all heard and love. We’ll hear hits across genres – R&B, gospel, jazz – from artists including Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Duke Ellington and many more. Some songs are interwoven with recordings of King’s historic speeches.

3. Omaha’s own Salem Baptist Church choir shares the stage
Damien Sneed packs this concert with talent and energy! So, it’s no wonder that Omaha’s award-wining Salem Baptist Church choir has been invited to share the stage. The choir will accompany Sneed in traditional and modern spirituals.
