College Internships

Omaha Performing Arts offers hands-on experience in various fields related to arts administration and event management through our paid internship program.


Spring internships begin the week of January 14, 2019, and run through May 3, 2019.


The Programming Intern will work behind the scenes, helping the Programming department present performance and engagement activities. Interns will also assist with working select performances and help with programming research projects. This intern may also help coordinate preshow activities. 


The Community Engagement Intern will work behind the scenes, helping the Community Engagement Department present community projects and performances. Interns will assist with WeBop, community workshops, and run their own project from start to finish. This intern will also assist with coordinating preshow lobby activities.


The Education Intern will help the Education Department present and produce performances and education activities. Interns will assist with select master classes, workshops and educational performances. In addition, interns will help with programming and education research projects.


The creative design intern will have the opportunity to work with the Marketing and PR team and will learn skills by participating in a variety of daily tasks including but not limited to - assisting in research of current design trends, idea generation and creation of graphics and layouts for both print and digital mediums. Candidate should be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment where managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines is a requirement & will finish the term having gained hands-on experience in design and the processes and procedures of the creative designer position.


The digital marketing intern will assist with all digital related projects across the organization including social media content creation & account management, digital media planning, campaign set up & reporting, website maintenance, email campaigns & other tasks as assigned. This individual should be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment where project direction and priorities can quickly change. 


The Development Intern will perform duties that support the Development Department. This position will assist with 40 Below –OPA’s young professional group, donor lounges and events, donor research, writing acquisition appeals, and other tasks as assigned.


The IS Internship will revolve around the web and application development side of the IT Department.  Interns will work directly with internal staff both in IT as well as other departments to accomplish project development goals.  The focus will be on Website and Content Management Systems customizations. The position will be encouraged to utilize their creativity, organizational skills and drive to meet expected time-frames. 

Internship Requirements

  • Strong interest in pursuing a career in arts administration 
  • Must be able to commit 15-20 hours per week for 13 weeks. Nights and weekends may be required.
  • Must currently be enrolled in a college degree program or recent college graduate.
  • Highly professional communication skills 
  • Detail-oriented, organized, flexible, and able to work well under pressure 
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, etc.) 
  • Subsequent to serving as an intern, participants must successfully pass a criminal background check and sign a release absolving Omaha Performing Arts and all personnel from liabilities relating to any loss, damage or injury sustained during the course of their activities as an intern.
